The purpose of the Aurora Housing Authority is to develop and promote quality housing while supporting and encouraging economic opportunities leading to self-sufficiency and independence; and ensure the availability of affordable, decent, safe housing for current and future residents of the City.

The housing authority shall have each and every power granted to it pursuant to the Housing Authorities Law, as set forth in the state statutes, and shall be subject to all limitations and provisions contained in such law, together with all amendments thereto. (Code 1979, § 8-227)

Board Information

Usually meets at 2280 S. Xanadu Way, Aurora, CO 80014 (west of I-225 and north of Iliff) on the second Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. However, due to the current COVID-19 situation, meetings are held virtually.

The housing authority shall consist of seven registered electors who are residents of the City, appointed by the mayor. Not more than one of such members may be a city official. If a city official is appointed as a member of the authority, acceptance or retention of such appointment shall not be deemed a forfeiture of his or her office or incompatible therewith or affect his or her tenure or compensation in any way. The mayor shall file with the city clerk a certificate of the appointment or reappointment of any member, and such certificate shall be conclusive evidence of the due and proper appointment of such member.

A member shall hold office until his or her successor has been appointed and has qualified.

The housing authority shall select from its members a vice-chairperson and a chairperson when the office of the chairperson becomes vacant. (Code 1979, § 8-226)

Four members of the housing authority shall constitute a quorum. (Code 1979, § 8-225; Ord. No. 2012-18, § 2, 5-7-2012)

Must be an Aurora resident and registered voter. One member must directly be assisted by the housing authority. Not more than one member may be a City official. Members are appointed by the Mayor.
