The purpose of the Aurora Housing Authority is to develop and promote quality housing while supporting and encouraging economic opportunities leading to self-sufficiency and independence; and ensure the availability of affordable, decent, safe housing for current and future residents of the City.

The housing authority shall have each and every power granted to it pursuant to the Housing Authorities Law, as set forth in the state statutes, and shall be subject to all limitations and provisions contained in such law, together with all amendments thereto. (Code 1979, § 8-227)

Board Information

Usually meets at 2280 S. Xanadu Way, Aurora, CO 80014 (west of I-225 and north of Iliff) on the second Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. Meetings may be held virtually.

Beginning on January 1, 2025, the Aurora housing authority board shall consist of seven appointed members who shall serve for three-year terms, and one ex officio member which shall be the mayor or a mayor's councilmember designee, The term of the ex officio member shall be concurrent with their respective elected term unless otherwise approved by council. No board member appointed after the passage of the ordinance codified in this section shall serve on the board for more than two consecutive terms. Except for city employees, any candidate who wishes to serve after an initial two terms shall be eligible for appointment to the board after waiting three years from the last date of service on the board prior to the filing of the application with the Aurora city clerk. Four members of the housing authority shall constitute a quorum. (Code 1979, § 8-225; Ord. No. 2012-18, § 2, 5-7-2012)

The composition of the of the board of directors of the Aurora housing authority shall meet and maintain the following qualifications, unless waived by a majority of the Aurora city council:

•  One board member shall have experience in affordable housing.
•  One board member shall have experience in finance.
•  One board member shall have experience in development.
•  One board member shall have lived in affordable housing or experienced homelessness.
•  Three board members with general backgrounds.
•  The mayor or the mayor's councilmember designee who shall be a nonvoting member of the board.
