Board Information

There is created a commission for older adults in recognition of the commitment of the city council to the older adults of the city and of the city policy to maintain a quality of life for its older adults. The purpose of the commission is to support existing programs for older adults and to foster the development of new programs through a lobbying and advocacy role. In recognition of its commitment to the older adults of the city, the city council pledges to support the concerns of its older adults in the following areas: housing, transportation, health and nutrition, recreational and educational opportunities and legal, legislation and cost containment issues. ACFOA meetings are scheduled for the first Monday of every month as 1:00 p.m. unless otherwise agreed to. ACFOA meets at the Aurora Center for Active Adults unless otherwise agreed to. Chair or Vice-Chair may schedule special meetings with at least one-week notice to members.

All members shall serve without compensation, but shall be reimbursed for all necessary expenses incurred in the discharge of their official duties.

Five Commissioners shall constitute a quorum. 

The Aurora Commission for Older Adults shall consist of no less than seven and no greater than nine members who shall be residents of Aurora, holding no paid or elected or appointed position with the city or any board of education. The commission shall consist of adult citizens, the majority of whom shall be 55 years of age or older, and concerned with the needs of older adults with consideration given to their contribution and interest in older adult concerns. No person may serve more than two consecutive terms of three years each

All members who have served two successive terms are eligible to become nonvoting ad hoc members for no more than three additional years.
