The purpose of the Civic Engagement Commission is to provide recommendations to Council and City management regarding the development and implementation of civic engagement programs, which may include recommendations regarding best practices for outreach and education, recommends to Council new initiatives to support and partner with community-based organizations, institutions and civic leaders in the public and private sectors in their civic engagement efforts, coordinates with Council Members, community boards, and other City agencies in the development and implementation of civic engagement programs, and works with City staff and Council to plan and implement a Civic Engagement Academy.

Board Information

The commission shall consist of 15 members. Five members shall be appointed each year to staggered three-year terms.

 

 

The commission shall provide opportunities for public participation throughout the city. The commission shall coordinate with council members, community boards and other city agencies in the development and implementation of civic engagement programs. The commission shall provide recommendations to the City Council and city management regarding the development and implementation of civic engagement programs, which may include recommendations regarding best practices for outreach and education. The commission shall recommend to City Council new initiatives to support and partner with community-based organizations, institutions and civic leaders in the public and private sectors in their civic engagement efforts. The commission shall work with city staff and city council to plan and implement a civic engagement academy. (Ord. No. 2020-43, § 1, 10-19-2020)

Usually meets at the Aurora Municipal Center, 15151 E. Alameda Parkway, with day and time to be determined. However, due to the current COVID-19 situation, meetings are held virtually.

Shall be a resident of the City, both when appointed to the Commission and while serving on the Commission, as well as a registered voter
