The purpose of the Civil Service Commission is to provide the citizens of Aurora with the most qualified applicants for and promotion to, firefighter and police officer positions, irrespective of the applicant’s race, creed, color, gender, age, national origin, or religious or political opinions or affiliations. To inspire public confidence in the Civil Service System and to afford uniformed members an opportunity for employment and promotion within uniformed positions of the Fire and Police Departments.

Board Information

The Civil Service Commission meetings are held on the second Tuesday of every month at 1:00 PM in the Aspen room on the 2nd floor of the Aurora Municipal Center, 15151 E Alameda Parkway, unless otherwise noted. The option to join the meetings via Microsoft Teams is also available. Please see the agenda for access details.

The Civil Service Commission is composed of three to five members as appointed by the City Council.  Commissioners are appointed to three-year terms and can serve no more than three consecutive terms.

Members of the Commission must be Aurora residents and registered voter prior to appointment.  They cannot hold any other position in the City for which a per diem or salary is received and cannot be an appointed member of any other City Board or Commission.
